Melbourne, Australia — Desda Group today announced the launch of Desda Labs, a dedicated innovation practice focused on applied technology for the Australian superannuation sector. The new practice brings together data engineering, artificial intelligence, and platform architecture capability under a single specialist team — purpose-built for the unique constraints and obligations of fund administration.
Desda Labs will operate as a distinct practice within Desda Group, working alongside existing consulting and recruitment teams to deliver technology solutions that are grounded in deep domain expertise. Unlike generalist technology firms entering the superannuation space, Desda Labs is staffed entirely by practitioners with direct experience inside the funds, platforms, and regulatory environments they serve.
"We have spent sixteen years watching the industry struggle to translate good technology ideas into outcomes that actually work at the member level. Desda Labs exists to close that gap — with people who understand both the technology and the sector it is being applied to."
— Dejan Jovanovic, Founder, Desda Group
Three capability areas
Desda Labs is structured around three areas of capability that reflect the most common technology challenges facing Australian super funds today:
- Data Engineering. Designing and building the data pipelines, warehouses, and quality frameworks that funds need to move confidently through migration, merger, or platform change.
- Applied AI. Identifying where artificial intelligence can deliver measurable value within fund operations — and building the guardrails that regulators and trustees require before deployment.
- Platform Architecture. Independent review and design of technology estates, with a focus on integration, resilience, and the long-term cost of ownership.
Why now
The timing reflects a clear shift in what funds are asking for. Following a period of accelerated transformation driven by mergers, legislative change, and platform consolidation, many funds are now focused on making their existing technology investments work harder — and on building the internal data capability to support that work.
Desda Labs is positioned to support that transition, offering engagements that range from short-term assessments through to embedded delivery capability on multi-year programmes.
Availability
Desda Labs is available for client engagements from the second quarter of 2026. Initial capacity is limited, with priority given to existing Desda Group clients and funds with active data or platform programmes.
